Raulin Rosendo: De aqui Pa'lla
€5.00One of my favorite salsa vocalists, RaulÃn Rosendo, is back with a new release that will not disappoint. This straight-ahead salsa project, with participating musicians such as pianist Isidro Infante, Luisito Quintero on percussion, Johnny Pacheco -- and many others -- on coro, this one is strictly for the dancers. There are lots of solid danceclub-ready tracks here: 'Vuela Mujer' and 'Tengo Envidia' are sure bets. And Mr. Rosendo's 7-1/2 minute 'Homenaje a Héctor Lavoe' will be sure to get those old-school dancers out in front. ('La Banda', 'Abuelita', 'Mi Gente', are but a few buttons that are pushed. A guaranteed applause) Ultimately, it's the cover track, 'De Aqui Pa'lla', a Sony Ovalle arrangement, that is the killer here. DJs make note: Play this track.
Raulin is on fire.

Cachao y su Ritmo Caliente: Original Egrem Studio Session
€5.00"The concept of the jam session (descarga) is nothing new to Cuban music. When good musicians get together they can always be called upon to be spontaneous and creative. This classic recording from 1957 showcases the father of modern tumbao (the repetitive bass lines in Cuban music), Cachao, with colleagues like 'Barrettico' on timbales and Richard Egües on flute who have become folk heroes, as well as others improvising over basic themes. This album is a great introduction to the vocabulary of Cuban music and some of its legends.

Tito Gomez: Comenzando en Cero
€5.00The singer, backed by a high-energy band, sends his tenor voice ripping through the monas. This is power salsa, pitched high, with the mix favoring the upper register. It's dance floor magic, rocking and exciting. Gomez's voice has a tear to it, a cry that gives even his come-ons sadness. Luis Vargas is a guest on a batchata; the rest is non-stop old school salsa.

Dave Santiago & Latin Affair: NY Salsa
€5.00Here's some pure, unadulterated, swingin' salsa gorda from the Bronx that will most definitely get them onto the dance floor. No romantica filler material, only capital 'S' Salsa decked out with with four trumpets, two trombones and terrific tres and cuatro accompaniment by Louis 'Carrasceao' Rodriguez. There are two generations at work here: Dave Santiago Sr. is one of the lead vocalists and plays guiro and maracas. His son, Dave Santiago Sr., plays flute. Latin Affair also boasts one of our favorite New York congueros, Papo Pepin. (review by Descarga)

Sonora Carruseles: Mucho Mejor
€7.50Great Colombian band (well, based in Miami, with musicians from all over the world) that merges the power of Fania era salsa with modern Colombian blast-off swing. Great singing, cool nasal coros, Colombian style, great band, good material, including a medley of Hector Lavoe's "La Murga" and "Che Che Cole," plus classic tunes like Ray Barretto's "Nadie Se Salva da La Rumba," and a bunch of originals. This is letter perfect salsa, no mistakes, no bad tempos, no intonation problems; everything's for dance euphoria, percussion slapping away, the coros accentuating the proceedings, the singer winding his way through the backdrops, everything coming together in a non-stop festival. Highly Recommended. (review by Descarga) Learn More
